Updegrove, McDaniel, McMullen and Chiccehitto, PLC (UMMC) announces the retirement of partner Mary Leigh McDaniel, effective December 31, 2022. Mary Leigh will continue her association with UMMC in a limited capacity as a retired partner.
Mary Leigh joined UMMC in 1998 and was admitted as a partner on January 1, 2001. She has 40 years of experience in all areas of public accounting including tax, financial and estate planning, and business consulting. She graduated from James Madison University (Magna Cum Laude) with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and Finance. In 1998 she earned the designation of Personal Financial Specialist (PFS) from the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA). She holds memberships in the AICPA and the Virginia Society of CPAs, where she has served on the Health Care and Employee Benefits Committees.
She is very active in the community and has served as an officer and Board member of various civic and non-profit organizations. She served on the PATH Foundation Board, the Fauquier Hospital Board as secretary/treasurer, and on the LifePoint Joint Venture Board. She was on the corporate Board of directors of Middleburg Financial Corporation and Access National Bank. She served as Chairman of the Fauquier County Chamber of Commerce and served on the Board of The Land Trust of Virginia. Mary Leigh was appointed by Governor Kaine to the Vint Hill Economic Development Authority. She was named “Business Person of the Year” by the Fauquier Chamber of Commerce and received the “Heritage Hero” award by the Virginia Piedmont Heritage Association.
Mary Leigh was elected to a four-year term on the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors representing the Marshall District, effective January 1, 2016, and was re-elected to an additional term effective January 1, 2020. She has served as both chair and vice chair of the Board.
